BLANC FACES

Songwriter and bass player Brian LaBlanc from the BLANC FACES duo was kind enough to send along this track x track comment to present the forthcoming self-titled debut album to be released on Frontiers Records on July 4th 2005 !

In the picture the two brothers are together with TOTO members Bobby Kimball, Steve Lukather, Greg Phillinganes and Mike Porcaro together with Paul Shaffer from the David Letterman Show.

1/ Here's To You..
This is really just a pop rocker that is a tribute to the wives or girlfriends we take for granted sometimes!! We sometimes forget the people closest to us and this is a song for them also! I experimented with some different vocal approaches to the song but liked the "Jimi Jamison" chorus sound the best.

2/ Staying Power..
Guitars similar to Foreigner on this one. Mick Jones has been a favorite of mine for years and this is a tribute to him. He's never looked better and plays great still. He's the rocker that keeps going and guys like that my brother and I love. Keep on rockin' till the day I die.....100 miles an hour....I've got Staying Power. I gave a little Mark Farner treatment to the vocal along with Lou Gramm!!

3/ A Little Too Late..
This one we wrote a few years back and was influenced by Cheap Trick. Another great voice is Robin Zander. Severely underrated. We fattened the production up on this one on Serafino's direction. He made the right decision.

4/ The Best of It..
I would say influenced by John Waite. We love that "Missing You" vibe and wanted one in that vain. Kyle's drumming and Butch's solo work really made the track come alive. Vocally, I tried to make it a little soulful, sort of a blend of Steve Perry meets John Waite??

5/ Pray For Me Tonight..
One of my favorites on the CD. It's a song about a soldier's perspective being overseas in Iraq. Whether or not we agree with the war, he or she is there saying "don't forget me man", pray for me tonight that I make it through. All I could think of is Steve Perry singing this and tried to do what he would do. It was an emotional song to sing.

6/ Sorry For The Heartache..
Serafino loves to rock and he wanted an uptempo for the CD. This was just a Sammy Hagar/Rick Springfield style rocker to jam on!!

7/ Turn This World Around..
A rocker, again, Hagar/Springfield style with a message that we must look out for the children growing up in this world of madness and turn it around.

8/ We Will Rise..
A song about Sept. 11th,01. Really a song of hope that we all can rise from the ashes and reawaken from the tragedy. I love the chord changes in this one, reminiscent of David Paich and Jim Peterik. Vocally, I thought of Bobby Kimball on this one and tried to give it some of his treatments. He's a great soulful rock singer, one of my favorites. I hope it came off!!

9/ Where Do I Go From Here..
Another song written about Sept. 11. from the perspective of a husband losing his wife in the tragedy. Here in Ct. a lot of people worked in NYC and these were the stories we heard for many many months. My brother was moved by this one. Again I thought of Bobby Kimball in my approach to the vocal.

10/ A Stranger To Love..
This was an older track we had written more in a style of (believe it or not) Air Supply!! My brother sings the verses and I come in for the bridge and chorus sections. Serafino wanted it much more guitar driven and he was right.

11/ Edge Of The World..
I think my favorite on the CD. This was an older track that Serafino made great suggestions for. Bring up the guitars and sing with all you've got in you. This was almost a "one taker"! I was drinking some great Amarone from Allegrini this night in the studio and there was a great vibe in that bottle!! We rolled the tape and it just came out.

12/ Beneath This Heart..
An uptempo written in the style of Survivor. We love Jim Peterik's writing and were always influenced by it. The vocal treatment was a blend of many of my favorites. I hope you can pick them out!!
